You should take it to your local auto parts store and have the code pulled for free THEN decide if it's ok to use the truck... Could be as simple as a rear O2 sensor or EGR or could be the beginning of a serious problem, so you really can't make a good decision until you know the code...

Local Advance and Auto Zone here open at 7 am, NAPA is 8.

If you don't have time to get to a place to have the code read and have access to another vehicle, I'd take it just to be on the safe side. Probably nothing major, but you never know...

Did you try the "key trick" to get the code? It's in the FAQ section...

Get the code before you go driving around on a long trip. There is no point in guessing if you will be ok to make the trip because without the code there is really no way of knowing.

well coming home from Springfield the CEL was not lit on the dash, I was getting 15mpg by the console the whole way down and back. Had Autozone check for any codes and there were none. I am wondering if like Marx said Because I did top of the tank before I got the CEL. Thanks for the advice and the quick returns.

Default Don't Top Off Tank-Evap System Don't Like It!

I made the mistake of topping off the tank and got a CEL. It turned itself off once I drove a bit, the evap system gets confused if you get any gas around the entry point to the tank. I did this twice before I learned my lesson.
