Have never personally used one, but most filter tests/reviews rate them quite high, about on par with the Purolator Pure-One and the Mobil 1 filter, just under the Wix and Amsoil filters...
I have one on my truck right now, but thats because of the sale that advance auot had on RP + KN filter for $40. I haven't noticed anything special about them other than the nut welded to the bottom for easier removal/install.
I've been using them for a while now. Amazon had a deal, so I scarfed up about ten for the Hemis and six or so for my Mazda and the Camry (fortunately they use the same filter). I like that 1" nut on the bottom. That combined with my Fumoto valves make oil changes a breeze. The filters ran a bit over $9 each and free shipping. I'm set for filters for a few years, now.
I've been using the K&N oil filters for a few years now. They have worked well and the nut on the bottom makes removing it very easy, especially on cars that have access issues.
Filtering capabiliteis with Synthetic media fiber oil filters goes as follows;
1.) Purolator PureOne
2.) Mobil 1
3.) K&N
Purolator makes their own filters, but Champion Labs makes both Mobil 1 and K&N filters. Basically, the K&N is less restrictive which means is filters slightly less so it can flow slighty higher.
PureOne is the cheapest priced and K&N is the highest.
