Tires
I just went to Goodyear with a buddy and happened to ask about the 20" rim tires. He says the prices are dropping due to 18" and 20" rims becoming more and more available stock. I think I saw the best at like $140 a tire.
sorry was going to put tire size in post but didn't!!!
they are 275/60/20 Wrangler HP's at the moment, have heard that the Michelin LTX (i think) are the best ones to have, out perform the HP's and last longer!!

The Michelin are higher priced than the Goodyear. I see Cooper makes a Discoverer HT Plus in that size as well. The cooper and the goodyear are S rated and the Michelin is not.
Here's what I found at www.tiresavings.com for that size
Goodyear Wrangler HP - $127
Treadwear - 340
Cooper HT Plus - $138
Treadwear - 460
Michelin LTX M/S - $182
Treadwear - 500

What's the treadwear thing stand for? Never heard of that. Is that a "life" reading or something?

I didn't know either until I looked it up. I just assumed the higher the better.
The Uniform Tire Quality Grading rating is a quality rating system developed by the American Department of Transportation. It is designed to tell consumers the relative performance of passenger tires.
Below is an example of a UTQG Rating:
150A B
The "150" indicates the treadwear rating
the "A" indicates traction
the "B" indicates temperature
The ratings are based on controlled conditions based on a particular course. A tire graded 150 would wear 1 and a half times as well as a tire graded 100. Traction ratings are AA, A, B, and C, from highest to lowest. This measurement indicates a tires ability to stop on wet pavement. Temperature ratings are as follows from highest to lowest: A, B and C. These measurements indicate the tire's ability to sustain high temperatures which often cause tires to wear away quickly or in extreme conditions lead to sudden tire failure.

I've bought mail order and now on the Web from TireRack for nearly 30 years with complete satisfaction... great selection and probably the lowest reputable prices.
Depending where you live they can even recommend a mounter. Or, check out a mounter first. Some will be up-front and tell you that if they don't sell the tires, they don't want to bother mounting them, or will make their tire profit doing so!
All the best.
