Default Sidewinder Installed!

Well guys, I finally got around to doing my cam install yesterday. The install is not a bad job, just a lot of steps. The only problem that I ran into during the install was when my spring compressor tool that I got from draggin broke. The threaded rod on it was just a piece of all-thread which promptly bent after about the second spring. So I had to cut the threaded rod off and weld on a much harder bolt in its place. Once I did that the rest of the install went fine.

After the install I started it up and ran it for about 20 minutes while I got cleaned up. Then I took it for a ride to get home from my dad’s garage to my house, about a half hour ride. First impressions of the cam are that I can definitely feel the increased power throughout the power band. It really pulls hard down low compared to the stock cam and keeps pulling all the way up through the rpm’s. The only thing that has come up so far is that my fuel trims are way off at idle. It is reading somewhere around a -14 at idle. Once I hit the gas the fuel trims go back to normal and my A/F is running right around 14.5 during partial throttle. I haven’t had a chance to go WOT yet. I still have to change out the oil before I really push it. I am thinking that once I get a chance to run it through a few more key cycles that the computer will start to learn the cam better and better. It does run pretty well for just having a canned SC tune on it at the moment.

Overall the install was really worth it. It has already woken up the truck much more than I thought it would. The next step will be to try to work on a tuning option for the cam. I can tell that there is still more power being left on the table. Also, I will try to get a video of the idle so you can hear how it sounds. It actually has a little more lope than I had thought it would.

SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

So you going to try a SC/SCT (since that appears to be the most reliable way to go) stack next or just adjust the fuel trims with a psc1 (or what ever that little thing is called).

Sounds awesome Teach. Can't wait to see/hear the vids. All these guys dropping in cams is making me think... (and my wallet cringe)

I am going to run it on SC for a while to see how well the computer learns the cam. Then I will probably try the psc1 or sct. Haven't really decided yet but am leaning toward the psc1 bc I already have a sidewinder tune to run on it, so I just need the unit itself.

Overall the install took about 10 hours. A lot of time was wasted screwing aroun with the spring compressor. Once it bent it just would not work anymore so I was just spinning my wheels until I cut it apart and welded a new bolt onto it.

Keep us up to date on this, 'Teach... I've been thinking about possibly putting my 210 up for sale, and going with something that just an SC by itself will tame. Might have had a shot with a stock 210 but with the -4* grind, ain't no way I'm getting by without a custom tune for it.

Been kinda thinking about a Sidewinder or a Comp 260, I've been told by a few with the Comp that it's perfectly happy with just an SC...

I will keep you up to date. The cam started right up and ran without an issue and with no stalling just on the sc tune. The comp 260 will 100% run on a sc canned tune and the sidewinder is running on it just fine.
