Angry LOW OIL...... Please read

Is it possible to be down almost 5 quarts in 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Hemi and NOT have the low oil light come on????? The only reason I checked the oil to begin with is because I heard some valve train chatter on start up..... I'm runnong Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-30 Extended life, it's been about 7000K since my last oil change..... WTF???

Did you add five quarts to get it back up to full? or did you drain it and only get 2 quarts out? Since it only holds 7 quarts, and you heard it chatter, the engine was definately starved of oil.

I added 5 quarts to get it back up to full..... I guess I have two questions..... How could I lose 5 quarts over the past 7000K+ miles and NOT have the low oil light go on...... and do you think I did damage to the engine????

dont want to insult you here... but are you reading the dipstick correctly??

and to loose that much oil. i suspect a leaking valvestem seal. When you start your truck up in the mornings or after work do you notice a puff of smoke come out the exhaust?

and do these trucks even have a low oil light?? ?

My question is who depends on warning lights and/or doesn't check their oil for 7000 miles?

I'm running Mobil 1 10W-30 extended performance (12,000 miles).... Yes, I'm reading the dipstick correctly. I don't notice any smoke coming out the tailpipe, the exhaust smells real clean, the engine is bone dry, no oil spots on the driveway etc..... I haven't noticed any loss of power or anything.... The truck has 57K miles

they're easy enough to check yourself dude.. maybe a 5-10 minutes for first time pulling the plug.
oil in the coolant is signs of a bad head gasket- or cracked block.

lol dont want to scare you. but now that your oil is topped up. keep an eye on the level- check it everytime you fill up at the gas station.
See if it keeps loosing oil.. and keep an eye out for spots of oil in your driveway or at you work ..
