2005 1500 5.7 dual battery and intake
i read the posts for what it takes to put in a dual bat setup. heading to the dealer to get the tray and hold down. the issue is the air filter is where the bat tray is and a product like k&n use the same space. so what product is out there for my filter? like between the 2nd batt on the pass side and the engine. any ideas would be great thanks rick
I'm doing the same thing, just gotta get the time.
In my case, I have a hood scoop (to cover a fallen limb boo-boo, actually) that I'm going to make functional and use PVC to re-route my filter in the center and slightly up into the scoop. Since I already have a CAI, this will only entail about $5 in PVC. Then a simple matter of cutting the hood, lining the hole with a rubber seal ) mainly for a clean look when the hood is open, and re-applying the scoop with the front cut out and another piece of 'gutta screen inserted. Will look on the outside exactly like it does now but be fully functional.
Then the passenger side is freed up for the Mopar passenger battery tray.
I was going to weld a box to mount the battery behind the front bumper just below the radiator to as not block air flow, but this plan kills two mods at once...
You could also just buy the Volant CAI which rests in the center of the engine bay, although its about the most expensive CAI on the market. It's also not an option for me as it gets it's air from WAY down low in the front, and I go through water once in a while...

If you think about it...what is the idea for putting an intake in? Create more air flow...does it matter if you have 400 dollar materials or 100 dollars? So long as it brings in the same about of air why would you be worried. I bought a chrome intake off ebay for less than 100 bucks, seemed cheap. Thats also stage 3. I love it, im glad I did not spend 400-500 for a stage 1 or 2 K&N intake. If you want looks then yes save up, but if you want performance, make sure it provides the right air flow and then why would it matter?
You other option on a dual battery setup, i assume you want it for a sound system? If so , I have a AGM shuriken battery. Those batteries you can mount where ever and however because they are not a liquid acid. I have the center console in my truck and i put the battery in there sideways. Put a battery isolator underneath along with some relays. Works great...I put that in before i put the intake in tho. Now with the intake in, i would have had room to mount it in the engine bay. However this way it stays a little warmer, and saves a little on wire for my system...
