If the gears have high mileage then they might need replaced too. On our jeep we regeared and put 40k on the gears and then rebuilt the axle again. It howls now because the gears wore a pattern in the gears and now they whine.

Yes we've had it off the ground and got under and located it to the rearend. When driving the howling noise is on excelleration, the growl is from 25 to 0.Like I said we've changed all the bearings in the rear axle(carrier & pinion & crush sleve) I think its an adjustment what I dont know is how much of what?

I have this same problem. I bought a 2007 Mega Cab 1500 which has the HD frame and suspension. I took it back to the dealership (multiple times) and they finally rebuilt the rear end with a new ring and pinion gears, Bearings and seals and I still have the same problem. I think the noise might be in the transfer case but I could be mistaken.

Sounds like the ring and pinion are howling. Probably time for new gears set to the proper pinion depth and backlash.

I just had a Detroit TrueTrac installed today on my 08 1500 with 30k miles and seem to be having the exact same problem that Plandon had. The guy at the shop said that when they pulled it apart they noted the factory setting and said the meshing on the gears was pretty deep and didn't have any play in them really. He said he called Eaton to see what they recommend and they said whatever factory is. They ended up disregarding that and set them up a little looser than what the factory had them set at. So my question is should I take it back in and have him reset them back to where it was from the factory or drive it for a few hundred miles and see if they quiet down or any other suggestions? Thanks
