I have the stock 136 amp alt., a 40 amp AGU fuse, and the stock battery.
Are you using the high speed side of the fan or the low speed side?

weed, i've got mine on the low side most of the time, unless the isnt cuttin it (i.e. pulling massive loads up 7k ft mountains in 100+ heat). I've got a switch in the cab that turns on the high side when i want it. when the truck cools off, i turn the switch off and it goes back to low speed. PM me if you want the wiring diagram for it.

Yes, it's wired on high speed. Weed I just put a 180 t-stat in my truck the other day and was wondering what everybody running the 180 sets their fans to come on at?

Just installed my e-fan last weekend (low side). With the 180 t-stat I have it set to turn on at 198* and cut off at 188*. While I'm cruising it sits between 188*-190* in 90+ degree North Carolina heat. Weed I honestly think you'll be wasting your time with the high side since the low side is more than adequate to cool this beast.. Unless you're in Afghanistan in July.

Yeah, with my fan on low speed and my 180 stat i run 185* going down the road. At idle Im around 190ish. Thats why I was thinking of dropping down to a 170* stat

Cool thanks guys. I guess I need to adjust my controller a little for the new t-stat.

Out of curiousity, what are the advantages of a 180 degree t'stat versus a 190 or 195? I gather that the truck might run a little cooler, but what does that accomplish? Mileage? Horsepower?

Might be a dumb question, but it would be good to know.

Sorry for the thread-jack. I am also interested in the electric fan. I'm seeing people getting 1-1.5 MPG better mileage with it, based on the searches here in the forum. That's worthwhile IMO.

Tom, think of what happens at a lower temperature with the air density

I can see the advantage of bringing cooler air into the engine (cooler = denser = a bit more oxygen), but I'm wondering - does the coolant temperature have that much effect on the intake air temperature as it goes into the combustion chamber? In other words, does going from 190 to 180 in the radiator effect a 10 degree drop in intake air temperature also?

If it does even half that, then I'm going to swap out my thermostat in the future also, along with the fan swap.
