I have been told not to use RTV, especially if you use too much, it will seep over the edge and get into the fluid, destroying your tranny, Use a gasket. Thats the way it comes from the factory!

RTV here about 10,000 miles ago and no seeping. Mine came from the factory with RTV by the way and RTV on the rear end as well.

My 2 Cents is: Use MOPAR RTV FOR USE WITH ATF+4 for trans pan (no requirement for gasket due to the design) and black 82300234 as required for other applications (recently labeled as Gear Sealant - RTV Silicone - Rubber Adhesive). I do agree that if you are running a rigid aftermarket Pan that may or may not have the RTV grooves built in I would want to use a Gasket. I make my own Gasket for use with my Diff Cvr cause was sick of dampness and leaks with just RTV.

Thanks for all the opinions guys. I believe I will just use RTV again this time. That's the way it came from Dodge, I used it last time w/o leaks, and I use it on the diffs too (If it ain't broke, don't fix it huh?). Just curious how many people use it too now that gaskets are being made more.

Going to do it this weekend.

Not all Rams come from the factory with gaskets. When you apply RTV, you put about a 1/4 inch bead around everything, then smooth it out with your finger. That way you make an even bead with no bubbles or gaps, and can control where the RTV overlaps the edge of the case (outside edge, if at all). Then you can simply roll it off with your finger once the pan/cover is installed.
