Default Gear/Rearend question?

if i change my rearend gears do i need to also change my transfer/front gears? it a 4x4. what size rearend does my 05 1500 reg cab 4x4 4.7 auto have? is there more than one? thanks sry for the newbie questions. mike

yes you will need to change the front diff gears aswell. if not and you engage 4wd youll see a mangled mess under your truck. i believe its the 9.25.

9 1/4" AAM rear end, and no you do not have to do the front gears as well. It's just if you EVER switch into 4 wheel drive you'll have to have the guy with the flatbed go back for your driveshaft, transfer case and transmission laying in the road AFTER he loads your truck up...

Front diffy gear ratio needs to match the rear diffy gear ratio. 4.10's in the back, 4.10's in the front.

^ haha it makes sense, i am not used to 4x4. but living in the north 4 wheel drive comes in handy. looks like i will be saving up my pennies. how much is labor? thanks guys mike

In my area the going rate is about $600 PER AXLE for gears, install kit and labor. IMO if you are going to go that far, save a few more pennies and have an Auburn Gear LSD or Detroit TruTrac put in while they are doing the gears...

i have a detroit tru trac in my mustang good rearend, i am prob gonna have to wait awhile b4 i get gears. i am getting a tuner and doing a home made cai.

your front diff is a c205f
your rear diff is a 9.25 AAM (corporate) LSD or open axle depending on VIN#

and by transfer gears do you mean transfer case? (if so, no need to worry about that)
