Now that I pulled the pan on the motor I just pulled and work with it a bit, it looks like one rod snapped and after removing that rod the motor turns over fine. With the difficulty I'm having finding a motor, what tools and information would I need to replace that rod? What do I need to have checked before I put this motor together?
Thanks

The easiest thing to do (since you already have the pan off) is to break down the top of the engine (intake, accessories and heads) and go from the bottom of the engine and take a wooden handle and hammer and tap/push out the broken rod and piston out the top of the block and either buy a new piston/rings/rod or maybe just a rod and have the original piston pressed on. The only thing I can see you needing that you dont have is a piston ring compressor. Its a big band that goes around the piston and squeezes the rings. You then set it on the block and tap the piston down until the bottom of the piston skirt lines up with the bore and then give a good whack so the piston goes in the bore. Obviously you should oil the piston bore before pushing it in. But then once it is all the way down you can re-fasten it to the crank and torque the rod cap down.
