You do not need a new TB gasket and I highly doubt you got any liquid in the electronics of the TB unless you dropped it in a bucket of liquid. I think you need to start with the basics like checking tire air pressure, changing air filter, checking or changing the plugs, resetting the PCM, ECT.
Are you doing your MPG calculation by hand or by the overhead display? What fuel are you using? Ethanol blended? Do you let it sit and idle?

Weedahoe is probably right. Start with the basics.
And DO calculate your MPG by hand, going from fillup to fillup. It's the most accurate way really. I'm not a big fan of the instantaneous readout MPG on some car computers. You'll think you're driving a Ford Focus when you drive downhill, and a loaded tractor-trailer when you're going uphill.
