Default Gears, gears, and dtt!

After reading these threads on gears and how amazing they are and yes I know they are because the moms 05 ram with 222,000 miles with the stock 3.92s will smoke my 08 with 15,000 with 3.55 gears all day and driving the two you can REALLY tell...So I am going to put new gears (4.56) in my truck along with DTT or auburn (depending on which is cheaper and performs better?) in the front and rear axles becuase I do offroad alot during hunting season...So I have a rough idea how much gears will cost from moe's but can someone tell me how much will gears,DTT or auburns, and instillation will cost me? Also I will be running a level and 35'' tires. should be a caple machine after ther mods!

Motive 4x4 Gear/Install kit Combo with 4.56 gears $599.00
install can run anywhere fron $1000-$2000 and make sure the guy know what he is doing or you will be picking up pices of your diffs off the road

DTT, about $550

Alburn about $450

i dont think you would need a locker in the front unless you are driving in swamp land, also not sure if you can do it with IFS

No such thing as a locker or even LSD for the front of our IFS trucks.

Auburn reacts quicker, DTT does not have clutches to wear out over time (although the Auburn clutch packs are rated for 100,000 miles).

Local shop here charges $600 per axle for gears, install kit and labor (so that'd be $1200 for a 4x4), plus you'd have the cost of the LSD and any additional labor to install it (which should be minimal since it's only one extra step when doing rear gears)...

Well I would really like to have lsd's front and rear but just rear will work then and I figure since I have a single cab shortbed with a tight turning radius ill get the DTT becuase the auburn would ingage alot wearing clutch out faster...But thanks for the quick quote!

I'm betting (but no $$) that your Mom's RAM has smaller-diameter tires than you do as well. The gears certainly make a difference, but so does the tire size. Of course, if you're off-roading a lot, you'll want to keep bigger tires and 4.56 gears would go along with that setup well.

it cost me on my 2wd to have the 4.56 put in 250 bucks(reputable place) i also paid 225 for the 4.56 with master install kit....i didnt have the extra cash to buy or install a real diff so i stuck with my open diff....my tech also said he would not have charged me anymore if i had a new diff or not....

maybe a stupid question but on a 4x4 do you have to do both sets at the same time? if only do one, what happens if you use the 4x4

You definately want to do both axles. If you have two different gear ratios front and rear, you will KB your drive train if you put it in 4WD. Probably the transfer case.
