Default MDS?? Does it really do any good

I finally got tired of the shifting in and out of MDS driving on the highway. When I bought the truck they said you wouldnt be able to tell when it shifted between the two but I definately can. I turned off the MDS with my Superchips and it was the best thing I have done. I think a may have lost a couple tenths per gallon driving in the city but I gained about a mile per gallon on the highway. So does it really have a function or is it something Dodge came up with to try and sell vehicles?

If you could cruise everywhere at 55-60 MDS may net you 1-2 mpg. Real world though it does nothing but get on my nerves. I've calculated tanks with it on and off, mixture of city and highway above 70 and the numbers are essentially the same. Sounds and feels much better to me with it off.

To answer your original question,"Does MDS really do any good?"......NO. It complicates a motor with unnecessary and ineffective system. If you want a V6 buy a V6 and be done with it. Its a good reason to buy a 2500 non-mds Ram.

i think it just makes it harder for the 4 cyl doing all the work, prob wears them out faster than the other 4 thats not being used :/

So many misconceptions about MDS. It switches in 40 milliseconds, so feeling it switch is very unlikely. As for wearing four cylinders out: not likely either, since they're all still turning. My C gets better than 21 mpg at 80 mph, so I'm reasonably sure MDS is effective.

As for the trucks, maybe not. That is a big face to push through the air. Any "testing" done without careful scientific procedures is useless.

Exactly. It was a great idea and may work wonders on lighter vehicles but not on a 6000 lb flat faced brick. It's unfortunate but hell, it's a truck! Certainly not made for good gas mileage

I don't care how fast it switches from 8 to 4 and back, I don't care if it makes the truck get 30 mpg. I wants me my 8 cylinders ALL THE TIME. If I wanted a 4 cylinder truck, I'da bought Tacoma!!!

(No offense to any '06+ 1500 Hemi owners)...

Not for emissions, to meet Federal corporate average fuel economy standards (CAFE). And as a selling gimmick.

None taken! However to the post above about how quickly it switches off the cylinders.. I can definitely feel when the MDS kicks on. It makes the truck have a little of an imbalance under the hood causing a very minute vibration, thus if he is as keen on the senses as I, it's probably true that he can feel it as well.

I don't mind the MDS, it doesn't bother me, the technology actually amazes me. It may not work great on a truck, but my 08 runs in MDS all the time on the CA interstates reducing emissions output and lowering MPG. BTW I am NOT a CA liberal so don't judge lol. Just a simple observation.
