It didn't bother me too much. At speeds below 60, it works well and will net better mileage but since the speed limits around here are 65 and 70, it didn't activate that much anyway. I only turned mine off because with my Magnaflow cat-back, it sounds like a jake brake when it kicks in. Not cool.

(No offense to any '06+ 1500 Hemi owners)...
I have owned 7 Tacomas and was a die hard fan of them. In the 4cyl 4x4 I was lucky to get 18 to 20 mpg and the v6 was 18 and below. Not enough of a difference for me in mileage so I opted for a full size Ram and couldn't be happier. Parts are cheaper and a ton more power than I will ever need. Trucks just suck on mpg no matter what the model. I owned a v6 Frontier and averaged 11 mpg in that hog. My ram at 14 to 17 is not the greatest but its better than the quarter tons.

Oh I know, what I meant was I'd get a small truck. I've had two Nissan King Cab 4x4s, one a V6 and one a 2.4L 4 cyl. Both got about the same fuel economy and neither were significantly better on gas than my Hemi - now my old '98 second gen, 'nuther story. LOL...

My brother in law had an 01 extended cab Ram with the 318 and man oh man was that thing hard on fuel. He was lucky to see 10 mpg!! Towing.....well thats crazy. No ***** and terrible mileage. Don't even get me going on the whole transmission problems.... I love my Hemi and for the mileage it gets is decent enough for me. Can always be worse.

I had the venerable old 5.9 in mine, can't kill 'em but once lifted and turning 35s, 9 mpg combination driving, could maybe see 12 on trips IF I kept it around 65 mpg...

Poor 318 was always designed to be the base model V-8. Too short of a stroke to make a good truck engine.
