Actually, I don't mind MDS. I get 16mpg combined mostly city driving with it. Not bad for a 5500 lb 4X4

I can feel mine go on and off but that didn't bother me, just the sound with the Magnaflow cat-back.

Same here. I even tried to get a quieter muffler, went from a ar3030 to a larger Magnaflow and I still hate the sound when in 4 cyl mode. Off is fine for me and has very little effect on my gas milage. MDS works great in my 300c but does little for my truck unless I was to drive a whole tank at 55-65. In town and 70mph + it didn't help much if at all.

I think you can also just turn overdrive mode off (if you have those capabilities)
I just made a 400km trip and my exhaust came apart at the common point (some of you might know) I could sure tell when my truck kicked into 4cyl. It sounds horrible for any aftermarket exhaust system. It almost sounds like its grasping for more air, or has too much fuel.
As for saving gas mileage it all depends on what you are doing. I average around 19-20 mpg on the highway doing 120km/h. I have quite flat land here, so some days it kicks in all the time. If your in a hilly area its only going to kick in downhills where you don't use much gas anyways.

Now I had a 2010 1500 rental for 2 days, and doing 120km/h I was averaging around 24mpg! I wish i had a camera to take a pic of the console stating it. I think in the older technology hemis with mds its not so good. But the new rams. It actually works, and its visible that it does work.

I also have noticed climate shares a part in when it kicks in. Colder days it doesn't want to kick in as much, but on warmer days with low humidity it almost always goes on.
