turbo'ed SC'ed or otherwise built hemis
Allright guys, im looking for advice on some different setups, as somtime n the near future im going to be building my 2500 for a tow rig, wanting to tow 12k +, and ide like to keep the hemi....so with that being said im looking at a full rebuild to take advantage of whatever i go with, im thinking about going with turbo's...yes i said turbo'S i also own an SRT-4 and was thinking that the stock turbo would do quit nicely n a twin setup, but im open to SC'ed and bored n stroked
, ive been searching and i can only find people running an STS turbo, or a SC on a stock motor, with like 8 psi..im looking for possibly a standalone system running n the vecinity of 25 ish psi and somwhere around 500 HP and 6-700 LBTQ
so questions,
Does anybody have experience towing with a built motor? if so how does it do? takeoff, steep grades ect...what setup are you running? intercooled, electric fans, gears, ect..
if nobody, then whats your guesses? lol i got ALOT of gears turnin right now so plz throw ur ideas out

i personally would go for the right motor... a cummins.
i dont have much faith in so called "built" motors.
that is unless you find a very good shop or yourself if you have that must trust.
A built motor with a bigger bore and stroke than stock is not going to be as DEPENDABLE/reliable.
you will be looking at A LOT of money to build up a HEMI.

your gas motor will want to run 25 psi compared to what you would like. but its not possible you will throw bearings and bend/break rods and pistons and so on.
a very built up longblock might be capable of 18psi at extreme most.
a diesel stock runs 32psi i am pretty sure. but are capable of going higher with an upgraded turbo.
ive seen people running close to 70 psi on their upgraded diesels

way cheaper to do this with a Diesel as most of the parts are there, they just need upgraded.
well, a diesel SWAP would be rediculous, would have to fab motor mounts/tranny mounts, find a diesel motor with EVERYTHING, including fuel tank, tranny n xfer then aftermarket filters fab/ mount them somwhere, then ide have what? a stock diesel swapped 2500 because the money spent on the swap wouldent warrent any aftermarket upgrades..would be better off trading in my truck, but thus this is not what i want, another truck payment...and 25 psi on a BUILT turbo motor wouldnt throw rods n bearings thats why its BUILT, a STOCK SRT-4 motor runs 15psi all day long and theres guys runnin 20-25 psi reliably on the stock turbo and internals producing 300WHP in a 2.4 motor
soo i have the truck already im not trading or swaping n a diesel, i know it would be easier but o well, an the 6.1 motor idea is great, then i can sell my motor tranny t-case for some $$ to put back into the build

the 2.4 turbo was meant to have a turbo from the factory so it was built right.
the v-8 wasnt.
you said your trying to avoid an extra truck payment so you dont want to trade your vehcile but your willing to drop this much money into BUILDING your HEMI?

yeah i kno stock my motors got 9.6:1 thats why it would be built with a turbo/ SC in mine, and yeah dodge did a hell of a job with that little guy, and thats why i wanted to do a standalone ECU so i wouldnt have to worry about that kinda stuff, and the reason behind wanting to keep the hemi is everyone n their brother has a diesel with stacks...im not too familiar with what will fit behind the 6.1 that was kinda a new addition
you are talking running 25psi on a hemi you would spend more in doing it than it would cost you to buy a used diesel. not only would you have to build the motor you also have to rework the trans, rear end, suspension. you could put a ctd in just find a decent one from a junk yard there is a companies that make stand alone diesel so you don't need to worry about the ecu.
