2.55 gears, lift? with 35's questions?
Ok so Ive done searching around the threads but i cant seem to find the answers im looking for... so if this is already a topic, I appologize.....
Im in search for a few answers...
I have a 2003 1500 4.7 ram 4x4 with 2.55 gears... Im looking at various different lift kits and would like something that makes a nice difference than what is stock as far as lift goes... im definatly looking for a full suspension lift and have a 6 inch lift in mind. A friend of mine mentioned that he thought a 6 inch with 2.55 gears and 35 inch tires would be wayyy to much for my truck to handle, is this true? I really dont want to get into changing out gears at this point.
so if this is true, would it be better to go with a smaller suspension lift such as a 3-4 inch and adding a 3 inch body lift??
and am i ok to do 35's with the gears i have??will it be considerably noticeable ?? or will it burn up the 2.55 gears??
thanks for the help guys!!

you wont win any races with 3.55 (there are no 2.55) with a 6 inch lift and 35" tires you will need 4.56 gears if you want to be able to move
and you have to do the front and back diffs if you want to use 4WD

Yeah, 2.55s are like car gears. Not truck ratio gears.
You can do 35s with 3.55s but it will be slower in take off because of the gear ratio. The advantage would be at higher RPM you will not be spinning as fast
It CAN be done but most guys will upgrade to 410s or 456s because we like to go fast.

many guys that have 4.7l have big wheels....think of xill a member who has 12" lift and 24" wheels with like 37" tires or something he's gota 4.7l man all you guys that think 4.7l are all dogs come down here to my town and we'll hit the strip we'll see how slow my 4.7l really is....your fine i would highly suggest a better gear ratio if you wanna lift and put bigger tires to go muddin with.....
sorry guys I havent been online in a little bit...My mistake, I do have 3.55 gears... i had a mechanic tell me today that i would blow up the gears with 35s but hes an old timer and not really into this kind of stuff..he also said that with a wider rim and tire it would add to much stress on the bearings and i would go through them really quick......is this true??
what kind of things should i worry about with a 6 inch lift and 35s....
and would you guys suggest a smaller lift kit in addition to a body lift?? and if so what would u say to go with??
