I've heard of replacing the stock intake manifold with a 6.1 manifold, but even that mod is costly.

I've seen people on other forums who have successfully swapped a 6.1 top end (cam, heads, intake manifold) into a Ram, but it required some tuning. As the 6.1 block is just a much stronger version of the 5.7 block, it should just drop right in. Again, you'll have to contend with tuning issues. Will it run with the stock PCM? Probably. Will it run right or even close to its potential without tuning? Probably not.

If you are going to drop the $$$ on a stock 6.1 you may as well get an upgrade to a 392 or 426.

I have heard of a few guys doing the straight 5.7 to 6.1 engine swap with little issues other than tuning but if it were me I would go with the either the 392 or the 426 options using the 6.1 block as a base as, like said above, it is a stronger block and is made for more hp than the 5.7.

He didn't change engines. He just upgraded from the old ignition system with plug wires to the newer 06-up wireless set-up which is called the 6.1L conversion. He still has a 5.7L with a bigger cam, and 6.1L pushrods and valve springs I believe.
