less strain on the engine and therefor more HP. Also it doesn't hurt that i gain just over 1mpg by doing this mod for 80 bucks.

I dont see the point. It's a high amp draw on the battery so then the alternator just uses more power to keep the battery charged.

I've been following some of the fan threads for the last week or so and was thinking the same, but didn't want to rain on anyone's party. I wonder how much more stress the added electric fan puts on the alternator? 40 amps is a lot of juice... For now, I'll think I'll leave my clutch driven fan in place.

I know for the jeep liberty the tow package actually gives you a mech fan instead the electric in the normal ones for increased cooling.

Dunno where y'all are coming up with 40 amp draw, my 180 Extreme moves a constant 3300 cfm of air while pulling 18 amps, frees up right at 14 RWHP and saves me big time from overheating when I'm crawling off road where the low rpms wouldn't allow a clutch fan to move fast enough to draw adequate airflow.
Another big advantage I have with it is I can cut it off with a toggle switch when I choose, huge when crossing water or deep mud.

Although I can see a pavement queen only really needing one if they got stuck in big city stop and go driving...

I don't know if it is 40 amps or not, but lets say that is what the efan draws.

40 amps * 12 volts = 480watts

746watts = 1 hp so 480/746 = 0.64343 hp that the alternator is taking in theory.

Alternators typically are about 50-60% efficient. So if it is 50% then double that 0.64343 hp to get what it is really taking out which is about 1.3 hp. So if you gain 10 hp+/- from removing the clutch fan and loose 1.3hp from the added stain on the alternator you will still gain 8.7 hp.

These are just rough estimates.

I just put one in this last weekend and have seen absolutely no change. I would not do it again if I had the choice. Not worth worrying about it not working and overheating the rest of the life of the truck.........JMO!
