Default Needing to goto street tires, What looks good?

Talking about an 05 ram 1500, 4wd, QC.

Hey folks, Its been a while since I have been here on this forums. I find myself in a situation where I will be moving out of the rural areas that allowed me to go offroading from time to time to Middle of Kansas City. Part of this whole move I will be selling off my gas friendly car.

I will be needing the truck to be touch more gas friendly, So I will be dropping the front of my truck down back to stock height and leveling the rear of my truck.

I have had 35" M/T Tires on my 17" Wheels truck for a while now and it has been lifted about 4" or so, So don't even remember exactly what the original 20" Wheels/tire combo looked like if it weren't for the pictures.

My friend has has a similar truck with the stock 17" Wheels and tires and I think the tires look way to small for the truck.

My question is this, With both looks and gas mileage in mind, What is a good street tire brand/model to fit on my 17" Wheels? Also what is a good size for a Stock front, leveled rear look, So that the tires aren't to big, But at the same time not so small that they just look strange.

Or even better, If you have a street warrior like mine is about to become, Point me to a pic.

kumho makes nice ultra-performance all season tires. I would just go to tirerack.com and select the dodge ram as your car and it will give you stock sizes that will fit on your stock rims.

On a separate note, if you are getting rid of your lift I would be very interested, you can send me a pm if its for sale I'll pay up!

Neh, As said previously, Stock tire size to small and just doesn't look right on the Ram's.

Sorry, Someone has a claim on the lift kit already.

still, tire rack makes it pretty easy that's where I would go. good prices and a huge variety of brands. you can sort by tire diameter, width, and rim size

I've had a good experience with the Goodyears I have now (not the stockers, second set). See the sig pic, I can post more if you need.

Appearantly the ram trucks had 2 stock sizes on the 17" wheels. Im pretty sure the one I seen is the smaller of the 2.

So it is between the Goodyears or the Dura Grapplers. Im Am leaning toward the Dura Grapplers. Designed for the highway and have good reviews all the way around.

265/70/17 works out to a 31.61 Diameter and 10.4 inch width. Anyone running 31" Tires on just a leveled or even slightly lowered truck? How do they Look? I think the 20's in my pic work out to 31"'s dont they? And I didn't think they looked to bad.

Although I HAVE NEVER nor WILL EVER buy a "street tire", I got a good buddy with a 4x2 2500 CTD who tows a lot and does so cross country. He has the Dura Grapplers and swears by them. Got something crazy like 85k out of his first set.

I chose the GTII's because my local PD few years back swore by them. I had a set on an old Road Runner, they're speed rated, not that $$ and I got about 60,000 out of the last set. Could've gone a little longer, but for some reason one tire wore down faster than the other 3.
If you have your stock Goodyears (275/60/20) then you have a 33" tire. Mine are 32", but they are the same height as my OEM tire (which was a 275/55/20 GY LS), which is why I picked this particular size. You'll actually pick up a little acceleration with a shorter tire (your 17" tires) and it shouldn't look so funny on a stock height/slightly lowered truck.

One tire, eh? Didn't have an open diff did it?

The price jumps by almost $50 a tire to $207 a tire compared to other brands and smaller size, But based on overall re-views, I think ill probably end up getting the Nitto Dura Grapplers at 285/70/17. That pretty close to the same size as the stock 275/60/20's I had on the truck for a month. When I had those tires on there I was pulling some pretty good gas mileage both city and highway and had good acceleration. Hopefully I might gain and even surpass what I lost by going to my 315/75/17's and lifting the truck.

Hammer, Under normal circumstances I wouldn't either. However alot is about to change, Truck is about to become a city truck and my daily/Family driver. About to sell off my extremely gas siping car. And I don't see a point in having an A/t tire if the only dirt Ill probably see in the near future is from my peeling out on neighborhood lawns of neighbors who tick me off Ugh, Im gonna have neighbors again. So it was either do everything I can to touch up the gas mileage, Or trade it in for a, Eck... Family car...

No biggie, Ive got A/T's on mine and I rarely see dirt either. But with double the rubber as a street tire, i couldnt see getting a street tire
