Uh, if your front axle input yoke is flopping around, you've lost your pinion bearings. It's FUBAR, and you may need a new front axle.

Sounds like a pinion bearing. You will probally need a new set of gears. This would be a great time to replace with 4.56 since it will cost the same as the stock gears. So your front will be probably 600 bucks to repair so for another 600 you can be regeared to get more power running those 285's. Now being a heavy duty drivetrain you may have 4.10's. If you do ignore my comment.

Yupp sounds like u killed your pinion bearing. I did the same thing on my old chevy. I was out in the woods drinkin n muddin and got carried away pounding the **** off of it. Didnt notice i smashed my diff cover off a stump and it didnt take long to melt bearings. I agree with that1guy tho, your going to need a whole new set of gears because you likely have yours all banged up and nows the time to upgrade if you wanted to do so. New gears, master install kit, and find someone who will put em in for ya!

Pics, pics, pics.

I hate to see anything that is damaged and going to cost some money to fix but at the same time, carnage pics are cool.

My buddy had to get a whole new axle assembly when his pinion bearings toasted, of course his ring gear lodged his pinion gear into the side of the case and it locked up at 35mph+, but I'd check into it and make sure all of the play was in the bearing itself and not where the races seat.

Sounds like maybe the pinion nut came loose and wasted the bearing. Either way, it's not gonna be pretty!!
