Need 12V wire

Default Need 12V wire

Im doing a little experiment, and i need a wire that will run 12V when i crank on the ignition switch to run the truck. which wire should i use???????? pics would be great! thanks

the one to the cig lighter will work fine

i thought the cig lighter wire is always hot, you just got to push in the lighter to activate it?

Not that i am aware of, my radar detector turns off and its plugged into it.

Yeah the cig. lighter next to the ignition is switched with the ignition but your other power outlets are hot all the time.

as far as I know the only 12V source that stays on all the time would be right off the battery and it would be constant. I tried looking all over the truck for a source and I could not even find one at the fuse box. No the cig lighters and such are all switched off during the start...at least on my 07 it is....im not sure about yours....

On mine 3 are on ignition and one is constant. The one inside my console in the middle is constant power. The rest (two under the stereo and one in the backseat) are ignition power.

are you sure it is switched off when starting the engine?
(or does the voltage drop caused by the starter turning reduce all otehrs to the point where electronic devices drop out?)

This is the reason your headlights will dim when you crank the engine over too.
