you are right, they started sealing them but only when the truck was brought in for services (i dont know if it had to be related to that)
id try and find a flat piece of plastic and pry, or a razor blade...dont scratch your paint up getting it off but it just sits there without the screws

Just pulled mine last week to unplug it (got a cap). Pulled the two screws, gave it a bit of a tug and it popped right off. Good news is the factory gasket is working fine and no water is getting inside. I have also heard of others where the gasket didn't work so well. Maybe mine is good because it was made out in the dry desert in Saltillo, Mexico?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I gave it another try after work today with success. I grabbed a mini "wonder bar"/trim puller and my trusty exacto knife and just a slight cut on one side and she came right off. Doesn't look like any extra sealant was used for any reason, but the foam gasket made quite the seal itself. I was a little pissed yesterday when I couldn't get the 3rd brake light off because the tail light exchange was gravy. Anyway, all three Recon pieces look great now.
