Compatible rear ends
I have a 2002 1500 4X4 quad cab and the rear differential is shot. I would like to find an entire rear end at a salvage yard and just switch it out with mine. I know the rear has 3:55 gears but I was wondering what other years of dodge rear ends with the same gear ratio would be compatible with my 2002. Ive called the dealerships and have recieved conflicting info.
Thanks for any help

Mike,
3:55 gear is very common, although I have never seen anyone with a LSD with a 3:55 gear. The 02 if I'm correct has disc rear brakes and any 02 thru 05 rear axle should bolt up. Many of us have upgraded using a aftermarket differential and a deeper gear. Of course yours being 4wd would also require changing the front gear to match whatever gear you choose for the rear. Good luck..

my 02 has a 3.55 LSD, with disc brakes….my 03 parts truck is a 3.55 LSD with disc brakes…..both have the 5.9 gas in it…..not sure if the 4.7 or 5.7 trucks had 3.55 LSD
Was an available option (and usually standard with 17" wheels) through 2008.
