Default Compatible rear ends

I have a 2002 1500 4X4 quad cab and the rear differential is shot. I would like to find an entire rear end at a salvage yard and just switch it out with mine. I know the rear has 3:55 gears but I was wondering what other years of dodge rear ends with the same gear ratio would be compatible with my 2002. Ive called the dealerships and have recieved conflicting info.
Thanks for any help

Mike

Im just throwing a tru trac in mine. Your best bet if you wanted a bullit proof rear end is to throw a ford 9" under there but that is alot of work. Just upgrade the internals and be done.

pretty sure 02-05 will fit, 06-08 should fit since they are all 9 1/4" rear ends

Mike,
3:55 gear is very common, although I have never seen anyone with a LSD with a 3:55 gear. The 02 if I'm correct has disc rear brakes and any 02 thru 05 rear axle should bolt up. Many of us have upgraded using a aftermarket differential and a deeper gear. Of course yours being 4wd would also require changing the front gear to match whatever gear you choose for the rear. Good luck..

Hello & Happy New Year...
Im upgrading my 2003 Durango (4.7Lt) 2x4.
I'm looking for a Posi_Lock OR LSD Diff that'll fit my truck...
I've been told that the Dana 44 should do it. Yet as I look around I've found different ratios of the Dana 44 (9.25, 9.22. series 30, etc...)
This starts to lead towards a little confusion...
Any help...

Dodge uses a AAM differentials not Dana. It should be a 9.25 AAM diff.

Thanx lxman1,
Now I have a code 750.
I wonder if changing the trans solenoid pack would be enough...

My 97 has a 3.55 lsd as did my buddies 05 Hemi Ram. I wish I could have gotten a LSD for my 04 Hemi Ram but pickings at the junkyard were slim and I had to settle for a 2002 2x4 3.55 Open Diff, which fit like a glove, but if I want to do extreme articulation I'll need to weld the bump stops on, but for a normal every day driver I don't even worry about them, I don't even like taking my truck off road, its a single cab hot rod truck doesn't need to do extreme articulation.
