Default High Idle Switch?

Is it possible to install a high idle switch for a Hemi. my truck takes a long time to get the temp to come up in the winter and i was wondering if its possible to install a switch.

Since it's all fly by wire I'd think it would have to be programmed into the ECM some how.

Yeah, not possible without having all or nothing. You can adjust the idle with a tuner but it will have to stay at whatever you set it at until you go back in the tuner and change it. That would be too much of a PITA though.

Is there not a pressure switch on the power steering that raises the idle speed? If there is you could wire in a parallel switch to raise the idle during the colder months.

Might be worth considering an e-fan install if your in colder climates as it will hardly ever run, the clutch fan can then be removed, which may help the temps stay higher by reducing air flow through the engine bay.

There is a pressure switch in the PS hose but it does not affect idle that I know of.

I got the electric fan done already just that there might be something. never really hear of them on gas trucks but my 96 diesel is easy to install going through the pcm.

It should increase the power slightly, but with the power of these engines and the motorised throttle it probably only keeps the idle constant, same for the A/C when the compressor kicks in.

Tuner may be the only solution, unless there is a way of tricking the throttle body of the accelerator pedal potentiometer with a resistor or something similar?

bump, I'm also interested in this. Is there a way to send the right amount of power to the TPS to raise the idle a few hundred rpm?

my 05 hemi stays about 800rpm until the temp is at a 1/4 them drops to 600 untill 1/2 is reached then idles at 500-550

get a remote starter, them you can let it run for about 5 mins and it should be at about 1/4 temp

if it uses the outside temperature probe to gauge the "cold idle" then you might be able to put a switch in with a resistance for lets say -10C, just thinking out loud here

All idle numbers are calculated in the PCM by information gathered from various sensors and determined by formulas programmed in the PCM by the manufacture or custom tuner
