2004 with 106k miles. Leading towards bad pinion angle causing u-joint failure. Had a gear install done last night. The rear end is OK though. Cant say much about the muffler/piping and heat shield.

OUCH!!! Were you getting on the throttle when it happened? Bad angle or maybe to much tq for the driveshaft to handle? You put the 4.88's in right?

I half throttle coming on the highway then back down and set the cruise to 70. Few minutes later i heard and felt a huge thud and saw the drive shaft in my rear view mirror. I then coasted from the inside lane to 4 lanes over onto the off ramp. Got to the end of the off ramp before coming to a stop.
Yeah the 4.88's was put in the night before and the drive back to Tucson was OK.

I am going with bad angle combined with the added rotation stress caused the failure. I am just happy that i came out OK and no one was behind me at the time.
Could of been a lot worse.

Battery is dead as well since i had the hazard lights and heads/fogs on for a hour while i waiting for AAA towing.
