Default can 4.7 get better gas milage

This forum is great and get quick response but I'd like to know if there is anyway to increase the gas mileage on a 4.7 manual 5 speed quad cab. I only get about 17 and that's alot of interstate. any help would be appreciated.

i would say if your getting 17 thats pretty good. possible ways to raise your mpg is electric fan swap, cai and exhaust. 17 seems pretty good i get 11.

I have a hard time getting 17 in my Dakota with the 4.7 and an auto. (Closer to 16 with crusing at 70 on the freeway)

An intake and free flow exhaust will help you, but if you like to ride in comfort these arent always the best options as they will add cab noise.

get a programmer (superchips) unlike every one on here, i will say if you seriously want better mpgs dont get exhaust! you might see a small mpg improvement but any mpg gain you will see will quickly lead to a loss in mpg due to you not keeping your foot off the throttle!because lets face it, who doesnt like to hear a good sounding engine roar? unless you got a very mild muffler such as the 50 series or something of that nature

efan, the only mod I know of that can pay itself back in gas savings in a realistic amount of time...

You could put lower gears in, which will make your engine not work as hard.
