regular oil temp on a warm engine should stay around 150* - 190*. 230* seems steep but i have never monitored oil temp on a 4.7L

Brettj2408 - How do you figure that the oil temperature would be 20 to 60 degrees cooler than the coolant? That doesn't seem right..... Can you explain?

Well i can tell you my trans fluid does normally run 140-160 whereas my engine coolant does run on average about 185. They do have and use different coolers

oil is sumped in the bottom part of the motor as in the oil pan. but is ran through ports on the crank, sits on the cylinder walls, etc
coolant is ran through the block and the head where as in the hottest part of the engine is because of combustion, combustion happens in the top part of the engine

thats the main reason why you would have different temps

it will also matter if you have the tow package factory on your truck with an oil cooler.
