Default brand new.....question about about brake light/reverse light wiring

hey guys,
i have a wiring question, mostly as to how difficult it may be, I am by no means an electrician, and i have followed what i thought was the correct wire, but to no results. any way my question is this:
i want to hook up two toggle switches on my dash board, so i can turn of my reverse lights and brake lights at will, i need this as my job requires me to hide in places in order to watch people. it would be handy to be able to use my brakes without alerting my subjects.
i drive an 05 2500 ram 4x4,
i have already cut the grey and red stripe wire goin to the brake pedal, the wiring diagram i have said this was the brake light sensor wire, but that did nothing.
any advise would help and thanks in advance.

CTD or HEMI?

Also, welcome to the board. However, even though you are in the right place at the brake switch pedal, this will only cut off the brake lights and not reverse lights. Here is a schematic for the 05 rear lights though. You owners, service and parts manuals can be downloaded from the other links on my signature

Slight hijack, but related - Would it be possible to rig up a 'stealth' switch that killed off all the DRL's, tail lights, etc? Or would this be asking for too much electrical trouble

you could put a relay back at each brake light, and reverse, and 3rd brake light on a switch if you can't figure the other thing out

DRL's are controled by the computer so... no (or a lot of relays on each light)

hmm, if I wired them to a normally closed relay, if something goes wrong I should still have lights correct? In theory... maybe I'll buy some bulk relays

Just disconnect the harness at the rear lights? Im surprised im the only one to ask this, But what do you do that requires you to hide and why don't they provide mechanics to do this kind of thing?
