Default Thermal clutch fan, or non-thermal?

I've noticed while driving that my rad fan is spinning at low and idle speeds, while cold. I double checked this yesterday on a 50 degree day, with the engine cold, the fan engages at start up. This would be normal if it's a non-thermal fan, however, no body else's pick up I know has a non-thermal clutch fan.

I have a 2003, 1500 4.7L. This definitely interferes with the engine reaching operating temp, and feels like it's robbing power at slower acceleration levels.

Another reason why a lot of guys (myself included) switch over to electric fans.

It won't affect engine warm-up, since the 'stat hasn't opened yet, but it does draw power.

Yeah, it's a good example of why the efan helps. I'm just trying to figure out if this is normal (non-thermal) or broken (thermal) clutch. If it's broke, I should do something now. If it's normal, I'll wait for spring.

I doubt if any direct-connected fans have been used in the last forty years or so. My '66 LeMans had a thermal clutch fan. You're probably safe 'til spring, though.

Its Normal, There is always some spin because the Fan is never 100% dis-engaged. Wait for spring.

This is normal and it is a thermal clutch. Only the t-stat being stuck open would keep it from warming up.
