Default Need help

hey i got a 06 dodge ram 1500, 5.7L hemi, and haven't had any big trouble (just replaced the EGR valve) but the other day i started it up for school and it ran normal. after a 2 hour class i started it up again and it started up fine and i was able to shift it into drive but i didn't feel it go into gear and i when i let off the brake it had no idle speed and it didn't rev up when i gave it gas it was like it never shifted out of park. the "check gages" light came on though. and here's where it gets weird, after trying to start it again it didn't even kick over. it didn't even sputter like it was trying to start. any help would be greatly appreciated. if you need any more info. just ask

Is there any resistance on the shifter? try and put it into neutral and see if you can roll the truck- if it does try and start it...you could always check the linkage underneath on the tranny too make sure the linkage is attached

there is no resistance on the shifter but after i put it in any gear the steering wheel and brake stayed locked up like the truck was shut off. i did put it in neutral and i could roll it and did try to start it but there was no difference. i took it into a shop today to see if it would throw and codes but it didn't. i'll check the linkage and get back with some more info.
thanks for the help btw

When you say it wont start, lets clarify. Will the engine turn over at all when you turn the key or do you turn the key and not even the starter turns?

Im guessing it broke coming out of gear thats why it was able to start the first time before you shifted out of park. check out your liinkage in the steering coloum

The neutral safety switch. The truck won't start if it's not in neutral. If the truck won't go into gear there is no way of knowing what gear your in.
