Default Differential Leak

So, I have a leak where the drivshaft meets the rear diff. You can tell it's leaking, but it is not dripping. How bad is this?

And is it covered under the powertrain warranty? Thanks.

Its the pinion seal. I would think it should be covered by warranty, dont know about just powertrain warranty though.

No warranty. Not considered a Powertrain item.
It's a $4 seal. make sure you get the double lip seal through NAPA as there are both single and double.
HERE is how you do it.

No....they don't all leak.
They only leak when they are worn.
I'd keep away from that dearlership!

It's very easy. The hardest part is getting the driveshaft bolts off! You don't even have to lift the truck up!
The old seal you can pry right out with a screwdriver.
I've seen a few garages take an impact gun to the pinion nut. I swear half don't know what they are doing!

I had the same issue with the pinion seal leak. I was a little hesistant to do it myself, I didnt want to tighten it up too much and have a grinding noise or differential failure as a result. I decided to take it to the dealer. They charged me $145 for the parts and labor.
