Actually, believe it or else, was just a big "Winch Death Test" where a 4x4 magazine took like 10 different 9-10k pound class winches and tried to kill 'em.
Only three survived, naturally a Warn @ $1200 retail. But a $700 Superwinch matched it and of all brands, the only other survivor was a damn $350 Harbour Freight (Chicago Electric) 10k Winch. The HF sustained some physical damage, broken teeth in the gears, but was one of only three that did not burn out during testing.
I can't remember all the other brands, but I know T-Maxx, Mile Marker, Ramsey & Gorilla (Bull Dog) were a couple of the ones. First to burn up was the third most expensive one, the Mile Marker...
