Unhappy 2006 Hemi Lifter or Valve problems???

I have been having a helluva time with a rough runnin/misfiring 2006 5.7 Hemi. Done a lot of parts replacement and now that I am out of options, it is in the shop. Has anyone else had issues like this and how were they solved? The mech says replace the lifters for +2grand$ OUCH!

I would pull the engine apart and replace the lifters for 500-ish

On a side note, exactly what codes are you getting for the misfiring?I assume you have at least changed spark plugs and swap ignition coils and plug wires around?

It is unlikely all the lifters have gone bad unless the entire engine is trashed. If you can identify the cylinder/lifters that are failing then open the engine and replace the faulty lifter. Of course this is an opportunity to also upgrade the cam and valve springs. Good luck...

all so if you are going to tear it down and replace it find the extra money to upgrade cam....and coordinating parts associated with the upgrade check on http://www.rpmoutlet.com/frame.htm and also utube has some video of upgraded hemi's pretty cool....

2006 Dodge Durango 5.7 Hemi

On Wednesday 1/30/2013, I brought my car to Greenway Dodge to fix my ticking noise from my engine. Engine ran strong in all phases acceleration, idling and cruising both hot or cold. Talked with Aaron from Greenway dodge and he said the issue was bad lifters on both sides of the engine. He recommend to change only the lifters and that should fix the issue.

On Thursday 1/31/2013, Aaron called me to let me know they may have to change the cam shaft but the Senior Technician said the shaft was good and the lifters will work with the existing cam shaft. Aaron also said it would not be ready until Friday.

On Friday 2/1/2013, Aaron called and said the vehicle is ready to go. I picked it up late Friday around 6:30pm. When I picked it up I noticed the air bag light on both the drivers side and passenger side was on and would not go off. I went back in to notify Edwin so he could take a look at it. He could not figure it out so I said don't worry about it I will bring it by next week. On the way home I noticed when cruising around 35 to 45 miles per hour there was a distinct popping noise from the engine. Now this popping noise occurred while drive on a smooth roadway surface with no bumps. Halfway home I pulled over to call Greenway back but did not get an answer because they were closed. I proceeded home and parked the vehicle.

On Saturday 2/2/2013, I called Greenway to let them know there was a problem and they said to bring it in. I told them that I was worried it would damage the engine. They told me no problem they would pay for towing service to pick it up. The AAA Towing came buy and picked up the vehicle. Around 3:30pm I got call from Aaron saying the technicians that did the work and him took it for a ride and they believe this was due to steering problem(ball joints, tie rods etc..), but they were not sure. I told Aaron that it could not possibly be a steering issue because the sound never happened when hitting a bump in the road. It only pops when cruising around 35 to 45 mph on a smooth roadway surface. His diagnose bothered me so much my wife and I came down to talk to Aaron and test drive the vehicle. When Aaron brought the vehicle around he said the engine light came. We still decided to go on a test drive. Aaron, Edwin, my wife and I went on a test ride. All window were up and no air or radio was on so we could here the pop. When driving out of Greenway there are two speed bumps that I purposely drove over faster than normal so if there was a suspension problem up front that you would hear the noise. When going over the bumps we all confirmed no noise. Next, while pulling on to SR 50 the vehicle started sputtering and idling rough. I pulled over to see if it was going stabilize. It did so we proceed to go on SR 417 so we could cruise at 35 to 45 mph on a new roadway that is smooth as silk. On this drive we all heard the popping noise. Edwin, Aaron, my wife and I all confirmed the popping. I asked Edwin and Aaron if they heard this and they confirmed. These noises happened on a smooth road with no bumps or holes. We later returned to Greenway to drop the vehicle off. I told Aaron that this is not a suspension problem/noise and do not touch my suspension. I told him the popping noise is related to the work performed on my vehicle. Right now I told him to fix the engine that has a popping noise and runs rough. Also find out why the engine and air bag lights are on. Aaron said he would have another technician look at the issue and call me on Monday.

Yarryman,

This thread has not been posted to in over 2 years so I am not sure how many responses you will get. If the dealership does not rectify the issue I would suggest a call to the Chrysler Customer Assistance Center and let them know what is happening with the dealership and have them get involved. The phone number is 800-992-1997. They will talk to the dealership and have a Chrysler tech get involved if the dealership cannot figure out the issue.

On Friday 2/8/13, Here we are a week later and my vehicle is still at the Green Way Dodge dealer. I have been moved up to the head leader of the Service Center at Dodge Greenway Dealer in Orlando Florida. I have been pushed up to the Lead Person in the Service Department. Tom has said all week he has his two best mechanics on my car. Tom says the engine light in my car is saying a miss fire but they cannot figure the issue out. They have been elimnating parts that could be the issue but we still have this mysterious popping in the motor. Right now they say I should be happy they are trying to fix the issue by replacing old parts with new ones. example spark plugs, timing tentioner etc.. and I should be happy they are trying to fix it and replacing parts and not charging me...My response is non of this was happing before I brought it in....I came in to get my lifters changed. My engine ran stronger no miss firing or popping was happing before I brought it in just the loud ticking noise that they fixed by replacing the lifters. My response is all the problems I have now is because of there lack of QC control there repair. Tomorrow I will be asking for a vehicle...It has been two weeks and I don't have my vehicle running... I told Tom to cut his losses and put a brand new engine in the care because officially you two best Mechanics cannot figure it out. Cut your loses. Tom still wants to try and figure it out. I am OK with that but I need a vehicle to live my life. I need a car or my vehicle period. There solution is I should be happy they are not charging me and they are trouble shooting replacing parts and not charging me...Bottom Line is they caused this issue and it is not my problem it threes...

I am going to send a complaint to Chrysler tomorrow.....My question is how long should I be patient?

Perhaps they put the wrong lifters in it. You should have MDS, maybe they installed non-MDS lifters. Maybe there is an issue with the MDS solenoids. Sounds like it is a valvetrain issue. Valves not closing. Dose the popping noise sound like it is in the intake or exhaust. If intake it is usually the sign of the intake valves being open during compression like either one is sticking open, the lifters are too tall or the cam timing is off.

Have they even ran a compression test to check for a low cylinder?
