Yeah, me too Nitto. I was going between a 2500 and my truck when I bought, two different dealerships. The 2500 was only an ST, and of course the 1500 was a Laramie. The 2500 actually had a sticker that was $3000 cheaper, but the deal on the 1500 came out much lower because Chrysler was offering $4500 in combined rebates that the 2500 didn't have. Lower price on a truck with an interior that was night/day nicer, higher sticker value and the fact that the most I towed was a 2500# bass boat, said "get the 1500".
In hindsight though, I agree, should have bought the 2500.
As far as the bed length goes, 8' boxes are WAY more practical. My old man has bought at least eight full size trucks new off the lot in my lifetime, and EVERY one has been a long bed. I've only owned ONE long bed out of seven full size 4x4s and it's the one thing he gets on my a$$ about when I buy a new truck.
Personally, I hate the looks of a long bed. My favorite look is of a regular cab/short bed (step side actually, but they are a thing of the past), with a huge lift and tires. But to each his own...
