break in
i just picked up my new ram yesterday and the dealer told me to " take it easy for the first couple hundred miles " how long did you all wait to really get on it?

About 10 minutes. Well, maybe that isn't true......probably more like 3 minutes.[sm=smiley16.gif]
My Gramps was a Mopar fanatic for his whole life as far as I know, and he always said "break 'em in like you are gonna drive 'em! Fast!"
What I have always been told is just watch it for the first 300-500 miles, don't run it too long at any set RPM range. If you vary your RPM as much as possible in the first couple hundred, your rings should seat nicely and you won't have any problems. just be careful if you have a long highway commute every day, or a lot of sitting in traffic every day. Take it on a nice road trip on the weekend, and log a few hundred miles out where you can really vary speed.

I was sideways leaving the lot if that tells you anything.
New production engines don't require a breakin, but if drivng it easy for the first tank full makes you feel better, that's the way to go.

A long break-in period is not required for the engine in your new vehicle. Drive moderately during the first 300 miles. After the initial 60 miles, speeds up to 50 or 55 mph are desireable. While cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration, within the limits of local laws, contributes to a good break-in. Avoid wide open throttle acceleration in low gear.
I interpreted that to mean, don't worry about it and drive.
OH YEA, It also said dohnuts are OK as long as they consist of at least 3 continuous 360s. Any more or any less would be bad.
