Default worried about rubbing..

put my 285/70/17 goody year wrangler territories on my 07 ram, they fit and look AMAZING but there very close to the upper ball joint probably 1/4 or less clearance and im worried when going on a on ramp they may lean a little and rub.. anybody have issues like that? i dont want to tear up my new sidewalls, i was thinking about those 1/4 wheel spacers that just go behind the rim any input or experience with thos? will the studs be long enough?

thanks
connor.

I heard that 285/70/17 should be fine and also thought to put such tires. Actually I thought about 33x12.50/17 which are even wider and bigger. I don't have leveling, nor lift so I also interesting to know will such tires rub or not.

I run 2" spacers on the rear of my Jeep CJ and havent had any issues. 1/4 should be just fine.

Ive got about the same 1/4" clearance between my tires and spindles. As long as your wheel bearing are good and do not allow the tire to wobble then it will not make contact with the spindle

I have goodyear wrangler 285/70/17 on my truck without any spacers and have no problems and have the same about quarter inch. I used to have 305/70/17 and THOSE were a little close for comfort, so I got the 1/2" spacers. A buddy of mine is an engineer (I think high speed safety engineer or something like that) for corvettes at GM proving grounds (and yes he drives nothing but dodges) and he told me about the spacers, as long as there is 6-7 full turns on the lugs, everything will be fine.

Only issues you may have with the spacers is if you ever take your truck in for service...at least around here, most places won't put the spacers back on if they had to take the wheel off. Which I think is stupid, cuz they didn't put them on, they were already there, but they still have to cover their behinds cuz so many people are sue-happy. Only other problem is finding the spacers. I searched EVERY store that sold any type of automotive parts. One place ordered some for me, but said they were the only ones for my lug pattern but didn't say how thick they were. When they got in they were like 3/16" so I told him to keep them. Another place ordered the only ones he could get and they were for an 8 lug (guessing 2500+) So I had to do something dumb and bought a box of washers and stacked them to the thickness I needed, until I received the spacers from eBay. Talk about a rough ride...they were not precision washers, so they caused a horrible unbalance...but tolerable for a few days.
