Default LAMP OUT light on - no apparent bulbs out??

Okay - now I'm getting frustrated. Lamp out light goes on and stays on for a while then goes off for a second or 2 and then goes back on - each time I hear a pleasant chime - chime - chime - chime. I've checked all the bulbs - they seem fine. The flashers blink extra fast when signaling and the rear lights do not shine when the blinkers are on (the front amber ones do though). When I tested the Emergency Bliners, they blinked at the normal rate but still no rear lights. Brake lights work, tail lights work, cab brake light works.

I was going to change the Turn Sugnal relay but haven't located it yet. Aaaaaaaggghhh!

Where's the Signal Relay switch and any additional suugestions?

The Front Control Module (computer) controls the turn signals and flashers. The trailer tow turn signals do use relays. I would start off changing turn signal bulbs. Even though they look ok the electrical contact part of the bulb is made of soft material and can flatten out making the problem intermittent. Also, sometimes the plastic around the contact will get hot enough to start to melt and contaminate the contact enough that it will occasionally interupt current flow.

I had a similar problem with my 02 ram, where the "lamp out" light turns off and on and makes that irritating chime. After repeated checking, I found that my tail light on the driver side was actually not connecting well in the socket. There are two then metal strips on each bulb that are in constant contact with the socket. Well on mine, I found that one of the metal strips was sort of bent and it looked like the plastic had melted a little. In any case it wasn't making good contact. After I replaced the bulb the "lamp out" light in the dash turned off. Then a couple of months later I was having the same problem, so I checked the other side. Sure enough one of the metal strips was deformed and not making good contact. After I replaced the bulb the problem with the "lamp out" light went away.

I hope this helps.

Good call DonG and 05hemi. This weekend I took all three rear bulbs out of both sides and checked the insert area where they connect. Sure enough two of the bulbs had the little steel connectors pushed into the plastic just enough to interupt the flow. They even checked out OK and were not burned out at all - but they sure as hell didn't work in the truck though. New bulbs took care of this problem.

Had the same problem with my '03 Ram....replaced the bulbs even though they seemed to be working and it resolved the problem.

Same here on my 2002. I replaced the bulbs and no more chimes.

Thanks guys.....I will try this on miine this weekend. I heard a continuous chime for all 45 miles of my commute yesterday. All it did was make me drive faster.

Just had mine done. Bad wiring in the tail light. I would change a light and an hour later it would go out. Sounds like a common problem with these.

I had the same problem also. Remember to put a little coat of that silicon solution on the ends.
