well i wasnt sure if the guage going back and forth was caused by a air bubble or something else? if you have the cap off while the truck is running wont it overflow when it gets hot ?

it might burb a little fluid. Try that first a few times, if that doesn't work I'd try replacing the thermostat

With engine cool, simply take the cap off and start her up. Let the engine run for a good 30minutes or so with the cap off, this will allow the thermostat to open up and let the coolant flow as needed. With that said, the cooling system will "Burp" itself removing the air from the system.

Just did my cooling system a few weeks ago.

My 03 did that and it was the thermostat also as freestyledude said.
I'd burp it first.........then if that doesn't work, I'd replace the Tstat.

I almost agree with you Al. I'd burp it first, if that didn't fix it then I'd remove the thermostat and drop it in a pot of hot water, bring the water temp up to then see IF the thermostat needs replacing...
