Default 06 ram MDS question

The question I have is MDS on my truck seems to work correctly but it seems like the transmission shifts into overdrive pre-maturely (40 mph) causing the MDS to drop to 4 cylinders. When I try to speed up it down shifts then kicks in the other 4 cylinders and will keep shifting back and forth at low speeds. Is this normal for the ram 1500 to shift into overdrive at low speeds? Thank you in advance for any help on this matter. Thanks Bob

It is normal and what most people complain about. Its not so bad at higher cruising speeds.

Default MDS system

I just bought the truck and I am still working with the dealer to correct any problems with the truck. So you don't think the computer is shifting it to early because it just keeps shifting back and forth when you are driving around 50 mph in town. I have been shifting out of O/D but the problem is it seems like it only shifts through 3 gears because at 60 mph you will be taching 6000 rpm and when I put it in the trailer mode it takes forever to shift into 4th gear. I thank you for any help are direction on this matter. Thanks Bob

When the engine is no longer pulling but more at a cruising speed it will shut down the other 4 cyl. As engine load increases and requirements are met, MDS kicks out and re-activates the 4 cyl.

Sounds to be like you are hitting right over and under those requirements and the MDS is kicking on and off. Do a search and you will see most people disable MDS completely because of this. Cylinder deactivation or shutdown has been tried again and again, over and over since at least the 60s-70s and never worked right. Caddilac tried it and failed miserably.

Yeah but how much higher does that make the RPMs? That not only defeats the purpose of trying to save fuel and does the opposite as well
