the gas cap appears to have a faulty seal based on what your are stating.

Reset the PCM by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 1-2 minutes. That should clear the gas cap message but will probably need to replace the gas cap if it comes back.

Welcome to the site. Some guys have had codes with the fuel cap and have replaced it only to still have the codes but later find the evap hoses under the truck to be cracked. They are located on the evap canister which is in front of the fuel tank.

I had that exact problem, replaced the hoses and now ill get the dash light with that code about once over 4-6 months but the next time i put gas in the truck it goes away. I know alot of my friends with gas dodges have this error come and go randomly.

Weed has it correct, as usual! I had the same exact issue with mine, engine light-gas cap. Take a look under the left side of the truck where you fill up, you'll see the evap canister. One thing that helped me was to take a look when I was filling up, I could hear and feel the air being forced out of the crack as the fuel went in. If this is the case, you can Macgyver rig the crack or pick up a new canister for pretty cheap from what I have read. I little "Magic Puty" from the late Billy May did the trick for me-for now.
