Default Straight pipe?

I've been exhaust shopping for my 2003 Ram 1500 4.7L and was just wondering what would be the pros and cons of just removing my muffler? I know there are legal issues in some areas I'm just wondering more about performance and sound issues. Thanks for any help.

i had straits on my 4.7 and it sounded great. It felt like i lost a little low end, but my MPGs were higher

It sounded real good though, I had compliments all the time. They werent the ones riding in it though, it had a ridiculous drone

Cutouts may be a better option but they also could be illegal where the OP lives or may not pass an inspection. So i guess the Q is, where do you live?

That's the problem I live in California. I'm in the Marine Corp and my contract will be up before the next time I have to smog it. Most of those smog places are pretty "look the other way" for the right tip though.

I'd say clamp it in and pull it next time you get inspected
it's 'less illegal' than straight pipes at least
