Default Need help finding wheels

I just found out the 17 inch Mickey Thompson wheels I was going to buy will not fit my 2004 Dodge Ram 4x4 because they will not fit over the brake callipers becuase of the way the wheels are machined. I was also told this is the case with many aftermarket 17 inch wheels. Does anyone have any suggestions on which aftermarket 17 inch wheels will fit?

enash - Please tell me you're not talking about Mickey Thomson M/T Classic IIs in a 17X9? I hope not, because I have the same truck you do with the 20X9 wheels and have been eyeing the Classic IIs so I can get rid of the 20s. Pro Comp Xtreme Alloys has a very similar-looking 17X9, but I have not idea if fit would be the same problem as with the Mickeys.

it turns out the guy at tirepackage.com didn't know what he was talking about. I spoke with a rep at Mickey Thompsons and he said the 17x9 will definitely fit. I just ordered the Mickey Thompson Classic locks (17x9) with 315/70/17 BFG A/T's.

That's a relief, there's hardly any wheels for these trucks to choose from as it is. Are the Mickey Thomson's chromed or polished? Every place I look descibes them as being highly polished with "chrome" center caps. I've heard polished wheels are a pain to keep looking good unless you regularly maintain them.

I take it with the 315 BFGs that you cranked your torsion bars up? I have the 20-inch wheels and streetrodder Goodyear Wranglers and want to switch to an offroad setup. I'm debating between 305s or the 315s, but on one website they had a formula for calculating gearing when you go to larger tires and it looked like 315s would drop my 3.92 gearing to an effective gear ratio of 3.70. Frankly, I like the punch of the 3.92, plus I tow a dirtbike trailer up the mountains now and then, and I think the 315s would require having the computer reset for the speedometer and ABS.

Sorry, enash, didn't see in your profile that you obviously did crank the torsion bars already. If you have a digital camera and get a chance, snap a picture after you put the new tires/wheels on and post it - would love to see how it looks. I think we're among the many that have done a lot of research to overcome the crap stock tire/wheel setup on these Dodges.

Heh, I had to suck my breath in a second there too. I have MT classic II's on the way with Pro-comp 33/12.50-17 M/T's, and after all the **** I went through ordering them, if they didn't fit when they got here......
