Default installing Y pipe, weld or clamp?

the title pretty much asks the question haha, i know welding is the best way to go, but if Im doing it myself, and use the band-type exhaust clamps not the U-shaped blots, would it be just as good? have any of you installed the magnaflow Y pipe on your truck before? any suggestions, please and thannnkkkk you

I don't clamp anything having to do with the exhaust, period. Not saying you can't but why have another thing on the truck that you have to check periodically and tighten?

true true, just the thing with the welding is no matter how much i explain it to the guy who wants to do it for free, he thinks that i want the Y pipe to go after the muffler for some reason and get duals, just trying to compare the 90 itd cost for the welding to the 9 itd cost for the clamps, i gues il just have to vividly explain where the Y goes to this mechanic haha

Spoken by a man who just bought a welder, LOL...

BTW, I have a small 110v 130A ARC (stick) welder that has been used three times if anybody wants it. I originally bought it because it's light and portable (for a welder anyway) and it can be used for jobs (would be great for exhaust work as it's rated for up to 1/4" steel) where I can't get a 220V line. But I got a "deal" on a $450 110V 140A MIG for under $300 soon after I bought it.
I have the MIG and a 220V ARC welder (and a gas setup for that matter) and have no need for it. Paid $229.99, I'll sell it for $125 + shipping if anybody here wants it.

I'll wait a day or two before putting it in the classified section on the forum or Craigs List so 3rd Gen guys can have first dibs.

At the location of the Y-pipe, you are getting quite a bit of engine vibration. I could see putting clamps further down the exhaust, but not there

Yep, that's why I figured to let that 110v stick welder go to a good home cheap if someone wants it. MIG was the last welding type I learned to do and even though a stick welder will handle thicker steel and is much more forgiving as far as dirty or rusted steel goes, I reach for the MIG for small stuff and the stick has sat in new condition for a couple of years now.

MIG is so easy it feels like cheatin'.

I still wanna learn TIG bad though...
