first post but ive been reading alot of different post and no straight answers yet so!! i have 02 ram 2wd with 3.7 and its about to go out or is ticking so i was wondering if its really that hard to buy used 4.7 same year motor and grab the wire harness and computer off that same engine and just put it in inplace of replacing my 3.7.. i might need to modifiy exhaust but what else really would need changed im confused why its so hard of a swap so plz hwlp me understand this

 

Welcome to the site. Sorry but i dont know a lot oabout the 4.7 and even less about the 3.7. Maybe someone else can chime in and help.

 

Anything is possible if you have a lot of time and/or money I'm not familiar with the 3.7 at all really, but if you get the pcm, tcm, wiring, mounts from the a 2002, you should be in decent shape.

I think the 3.7 and 4.7 use the same accessories, so that is good. But I know that the 2002 4.7 isn't cheap because the 2002 has a different tone wheel than the nearly identical 2003-2005 4.7s. After 2002, the tcm is gone and the pcm does all the work, so that will require some wiring that won't be too easy.

Best thing you can do is get the dealer service manual for 2002 and look at the differences in the wiring, and also look at the part diagrams as well to see what is different between the 2 engines. If the 4.7 is going to be a ton of work, put a hemi in it.

 

I know the A/C compressor is the same. I'm pretty sure everything else is. I know swapped Chris mallet swap a 12 valve cummins into his 02. I would PM him and see what he knows.

 

thanks everyone im not expierienced enough to know how to do this job but was really wanting it done though... i found a guy selling a 4.7 out of 02 that is willing to do the swap says it shouldnt b too much work considering he has a lots of parts available to him hes gonna sell me motor computer and haness installed in my truck for 1750 engine has 67k on it so ill let u know how it turns out .. also he is going to swap my tranny for a 4.7 tranny which i thought think theyre the same but we,ll see ...p.s. i only paid 900 bucks for this 02 2wd ram 1500 so it will be worth it if it works should though..

Same model year harness and engine, should be fairly straight forward (minus any programming issues that may creep up).
