Default Replacing a broken radio

Hi!
I'm about to replace a broken radio/cd charger in my 2004 Dodge RAM 1500.

To make the switch, do I need to remove the center console, or just the center trim?

Anyone have a DIY?

Thanks,
g_svan

Default Radio Replacment

I recently replaced my factory radio with an aftermarket one.
I ordered two kits from Crutchfield:
Item Description Amount
120706502 Chrysler/Dodge Wire Harness receiver, 2001-up 14.99
120996503 Chrysler Concorde/Dodge LHS 1998-up, 14.99
0000160097 DODG PKUP 02- (FULL SIZE) MS 0.00

Made installation a breeze took about 5 minutes, best thing is I can go back to factory in the same amount of time if desired.

The kit comes with instructions on how to remove the dash panel.
Step 1 is to remove the screw right about the trash bag hook on the right hand side of the center console.
Then carefully pull the entire center console out, not just the portion around the radio and climate controls. There are 10 clips that hold the cover in place.

Hope this helps.. I can scan and post the diagram this evening if needed.

Remove the screw behind the hook by the glovebox and pull the console facing off. There are four screws that hold the radio in place.

What radio are you going to go with? I make the bezels for the double DINs if you are looking for one.

+1 screw behind the bag hook.. Pop center console out.

I went to Walmart picked up the scosche adapter kit for RAM/Durango '01-06 or something, was like half the price of Crutchfield's... Am I the only one whose back speaker wires got toasted? I have to run new wires to the rear speakers (someday)...

However, if you buy all the stuff from Crutchfield, they give you detailed instructions on how to do the change, included with the proper wiring harness adapter etc.
