Cracking open the rear again on the 03
I'm curious to know what temps are typical with this rear. I know it's only been a couple of weeks since the last crack open and I've seen this rear run cooler but maybe it's because the outside temps are a little warmer now but I'm seeing 160's pretty common doing 40-55MPH 15 mile stop and go trips.
Just to keep you all updated, I wasn't comfortable with the temps I was running at about 180*F just driving 20 miles or so - so I installed the solid spacer and we'll just have to see what ends up there. patterns look good and waiting for new gears to come in to do it all again just thought I'd do the solid spacer deal and see what I get.
Yea I think the highest I was seeing w/ mine was 155-160 after 30 mins. on the highway at 60-65 mph. I didn't know yours were getting that hot, at least they haven't melted like one of my sets did. So you're going with a fresh set of gears to try and get rid of the noise? What brand are you using this time?
I'm toting 120-130 now, 145 after a highway run. Much better. I'm also not getting that noticeable switch in noise when going from accel to decel. Right where I would be cruising is pretty much gone. No noise on decel but noise on accel from 45 up to 55 or 60 or so, not super loud but bearable.
I'm sticking with Motives. debated on G2's or Yukons but honestly, I haven't really had any problems with the Motives other than the installer.
I get the gears and install kit for less than $300 from Moe's.
