Default I only have one key, can I program second new one myself? [2005 Laramie]

So my uncle's 2005 Ram Laramie only has one key & fob. The second set got lost. I'd like to get another key for him, and not worry about the extra keyless fob.

I'm wondering if I pick up a key with a chip in it for him, can I just have a locksmith cut it, and then I can program it somehow myself?

He really doesn't know anything about vehicles, that's why I'm asking.

Thanks!

I would assume if you had the key anyone could cut it, but the programming could only be done by a dodge dealership or someone who has the computer to do it, like the starscan.

Assuming we're talking about a security key, you must have two to add a third. If it's just a fob, you can add one (or more) if you have one working unit.

Yep, you must have 2 working keys to program a 3rd.
